I saw many negative reviews for this movie, but as a fan of Guy Ritchie, I decided to try it and ended up really enjoying it. If you like Guy Ritchie movies, give it a shot, don't read reviews with mixed opinions.
This movie is based on a true story from Winston Churchill's confidential files, declassified in 2016.
Storyline
A team is formed in an unorthodox way under Churchill and a group of military officials to sink German ships. This team is made up of rogues and mavericks, fitting Guy Ritchie's action-comedy style.
The entire servicing, repairing, and rearming of Hitler's Atlantic U-boat fleet is operated by two Nazi tugboats and an Italian supply ship (Duchessa) in Fernando Po.
I need men who are willing to go and sink those ships.
But instead of sinking, they ended up stealing it. The story unraveled most entertainingly I’d say!
Thoughts
The movie starts nicely, showing who they are in the most believable way possible. I really liked the whole scene! It really grabbed my attention.
Henry Cavill was a great choice and showed he could play roles beyond Superman. Then there was that Reacher guy - Alan Ritchson, the beast! He fit his role well, especially in the bloody, gruesome action scenes with knives, axes, and arrows!
The scenes and shots blended perfectly with the storyline - Ed Wild!
The standout element for me was the soundtrack. It enhanced the scenes, with no repetition or similarities to other movies. Attached are my favorite picks from this movie. Thank you Christopher Benstead! I need to use this somewhere.
The only thing I think didn't do any justice to this movie was the posters. It's not that great and doesn't match the movie's idea, something feels off about it.
A suggestion: If you haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend checking out The Gentlemen (2019). It's another action-comedy by Guy Ritchie that you might really enjoy!
