Just FYI, it is a ranting. Some people might get offended. But I need to vent it out of my mind.
Arrghโฆ
Everybody is now a creator and it is saturating the social feeds. A very limited number of people are creating something unique or interesting. It first started to be visible on LinkedIn. Like, every influencer or mentor is saying the same thing but in their voice. In the design world, there is a saying, that everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. But in this case (social media/feed), it started to evolve into a content graveyard.
Everyone's constant urge to share something to be relevant to the algorithm is quite sad. I get that it is a good money-making choice, but there is no visible value. Now โsomeoneโ will argue that there is no point in seeking value in everything. Well, it depends on perspective and Iโm leaving it at it.
Maybe my creation is not well balanced with my consumption. But I rarely spent time on these. Whenever I open LinkedIn, it is the worst. I absolutely hate that platform (yeah I know hate is a strong word, but I don't mind). Why is everyone faking it? See the below video. Credits to whoever made it.
Literally, everyone is creating content with AI tools and flooding those on the internet. And all those people who preach about โyou are using chatgpt wronglyโฆ.โ is a different breed. They are like the new Jehovah's Witness people.
Do we need everyone as a creator?
Itโs just overwhelming. I don't want to know all of the life hacks, tutorials, tricks, and tips out there. I used to love all these. But my saved-for items are getting bigger and bigger and I have no plan to revisit them anytime soon. Itโs just random content saved for later resting in peace.
I know that I have the option of not watching it or scrolling away, but that feeling of missing out (only on new technologies and updates) and I have seen many people talking about these now. So this is becoming an issue.
Iโm spending my time doing what I like, but here and there I used to get into Instagram to see some memes and funny cat videos or random troll videos but these days I immediately step away. I just can't take it anymore.
Consumption vs. processing vs. fatigue
We consume a lot of content these days because everyone is living on the internet (oh noโฆ metaverse). But are we processing all that accordingly? Or are we living like a firefly?
Is the dream of access to information becoming the new problem?
No, I don't want your course or your offer. I just want peace.
One thing I noticed during this evolution is that the same type of content on YouTube didn't get millions of likes right away, because it is usually a two to four-minute video and there is no โscroll to next videoโ. But the same will get millions of likes if it shrinks to a fifteen to thirty-second video.
Our attention span is reducing day by day. Maybe this is why I lost the book-reading experience. I can't even sit through a mediocre cinema or TV show. But used to watch all these during the TV era which took hours and hours.
