Storyline
Story of a handyman living in Boston who came to Manchester due to his brother's death and a journey through his unforgettable past and difficult present life.
My thoughts
Absolutely sorrowful movie. Crafted at its perfection I’d say.
Casey Affleck nailed his performance. He did almost the same character in Interstellar too, I mean the guilt and sadness-oriented type. One of my favorite genres is Drama. And this was a perfect fit for the time I choose. Completed in one stretch.
The mystery is kept until the correct moment. That was the turnaround point of the film. Till then we are just going with the death and funeral and the son’s situation, which is also rendered nicely.
There was no lag. Music did a great job to convey the film in the accident drama type. I thought about a lot of things to write while watching the film, but now I can't type anything. I have no idea how to write about the tragedy that caused numbness and pain without giving out spoilers.
If you already watched the movie, check the below video (*** spoilers ***).
I don't think I can live after something like this.
Sometimes the pain is difficult to deal with. This movie is something like that. No happy ending drama at the climax, just how it would be in real life, as it is.
Spoiler thoughts
The will to his name is a great gesture by his brother. I’m thinking about it a lot. His friend also was a nice person. The son was a perfect teenage boy who is sensitive and also smart. The mother was the worst character in this movie, the rejoining didn't work well. The final moments with Randy his ex-wife was - a difficult scene - acted so well that we would feel sorry for both of them. Lee’s decision to hand over Patty’s guardianship to Joe’s friend was the perfect and humanely possible climax if you think about it.
