Will AI interactions extend beyond the simple chat models?
The quest for seamless interaction with the multi-AI model continues.
For most of us, AI is a chat model, right? You give it some information, and it responds with something relevant to what you provided. This simple interaction is one of the best ways to use this groundbreaking technology in our daily lives.
Over the past few months, I've used various AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Pi, Perplexity, Mistral, Microsoft Bing AI, etc to explore and understand many complex subjects.
As you probably know, each AI model has its own strengths and weaknesses, depending on how it was trained and what data it was trained on. It is not practical and logical to only depend on one AI model.
Opening and managing multiple tabs is the biggest pain point I faced. I need multiple windows of apps I use and multiple browser instances. And I wanted to navigate easily too. But at some point, my system might feel a little stuck due to this. So I started to look for platforms that offer multimodal chat.
I stumbled upon three platforms so far;
These platforms allow users to explore the intelligence of multiple AI models which is a huge deal if you're also facing this issue.
I think platforms like these are the best solution for researchers, students, and anyone who needs access to a diverse range of knowledge and perspectives.
It can help users gain a more comprehensive understanding of complex topics, cross-check information, and minimize biases, leading to more reliable and well-rounded learning experiences.
It would be helpful if a platform provides a consolidated analysis of multiple model responses, with detailed individual responses included in separate sections. Of course, that’s going to be costly. But I guess in the future maybe.
If you're thinking about paying for an AI chat app, it's best to go for platforms that give you access to more than one AI model. That way, you'll have a wider range of knowledge and perspectives available, instead of limiting yourself to just one platform and potentially missing out on valuable insights.
My only concern and request here is about security and privacy.
Users need to know exactly how their data is handled and protected, especially when third-party services are involved.
Transparency is crucial, and platforms should clearly explain their privacy policies and security measures upfront in “normal language”, so users can make informed decisions and feel confident about their data safety.
As my learning journey continued, I started to realize one thing. Chat-based interaction needs to be improved. I have many chats that I want to keep, but not always. And this gives me an overwhelming experience.
To address this, I started exploring different methods of organizing and storing the information I learned. I wanted to have all this knowledge easily accessible and manageable, but in a way that doesn't feel overwhelming.
I had two options in front of me that I know of;
Obsidian: Sharpen your thinking.
Capacities: A studio for your mind.
Both these tools have one thing in common - A Graph View!
We often use graphs and charts to make it easier to understand complicated information by turning it into a more visual and simple format, right?
Multi-layered data with graphs
This is what I’m expecting in AI chat apps.
I mean, we can learn and identify the connections visually and then focus on the specific components that capture our interest.
The current pain point in AI chat models
When we explore a topic there might be something that we need additional information on. We have two options. Currently, this is where things start to complicate.
I. Continue in the same thread
Continuing in the same thread can make it difficult to find specific information later, as the chat becomes lengthy and cluttered.
A timeline design with timestamps and headings (like Google Photos) or a powerful search feature could help solve this issue. A Twitter thread-like experience also sounds good - I mean for the parent message, there will be many child threads and all of it will be separate.
II. Start a new one
Starting a new thread can be confusing, as there's no way to connect the two related threads. Also, the left navigation bar becomes more busy.
A folder structure or a grouping system might work here.
What my thought is;
A canvas experience, like a mind map
This is my expected solution, but I don't know the difficulty of it.
When I'm learning, designing, or creating videos, I like to use Canvas tools to organize my data. My go-to platforms are FigJam and Obsidian Canvas because they let me arrange information in a timeline-like structure. This makes it super easy for me to copy, paste, and move things around, so I can quickly create a clear and organized layout.
Feeling complicated? I’ll explain…
This idea is tailored for folks who are really into learning and research. It works great for me with tools like Obsidian and Capacities, but I'm not sure how tough it would be to make it work in other situations.
Imagine a canvas with a few tools, like “new instances of a chat, section creator, connector with naming option and a sticky note”.
We can create canvases for anything, that is our choice based on our common sense.
For example; think of a canvas for “Ecology”.
You can begin your chat with an “Instance” and continue that instance as you like.
But if you select and ask context-based questions or follow up, you can see the flow chart like a mind map.
From the next “select and ask/follow up”, the next section will start.
These sub-threads will be color-coded to identify them easily.
Also, the follow-up input will be visible in the connector.
You can create as many instances in a canvas and you can also create a section with the related ones.
Finally, you can navigate these conversations with a graph view too.
Please refer to the below example video.
I created this visualization of my idea in Obsidian (with the limitations of this platform, of course), but I recently discovered that saner.ai has a similar feature. Do check it out.
I strongly believe this type of interaction will help us to navigate, organize, and revisit conversations easily.
Take a look at this website that is supported by Obsidian. It features interactive graphs, notes, and an organized structure.
What do you think?
Do you have any better ideas or suggestions?
Pending: I’m planning to design a prototype of this idea. But feels like something is missing. Once I find out what it is, I’ll start.
Voice-based interactions can definitely be a game-changer, but they need to come with powerful search capabilities and support for various languages. The content should be easily accessible and manageable later, with the incorporation of voice-to-text features to facilitate sharing with others.
This is an interesting read, thanks for sharing!
